Classic Apple Pie
Before you dive into this delicious recipe, make sure you have everything you need. This Apple Pie features a beautiful lattice crust that not only looks amazing but adds a delightful texture to the pie. Let's get started!
Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
- 6 to 8 apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
- ¾ cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 egg yolk, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine 2 ½ cups flour, salt, and sugar. Add the diced butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Divide the dough in half, shape into discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). In another bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well coated.
- Roll out one disc of dough on a floured surface to fit your pie plate. Place it into the pie plate, and fill with the apple mixture. Roll out the second disc, and cut into strips to create the lattice top.
- Arrange the strips over the filling, weaving them over and under. Trim the edges and seal the crust, then brush the crust with the beaten egg yolk.
- Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, or until apples are soft and crust is golden brown.
- Allow the pie to cool before serving to let the filling set up.
Enjoy a slice of this classic dessert with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra treat. Your friends and family will love it!
