Classic Apple Pie
This timeless dessert is perfect for any occasion, whether it's a holiday gathering, a family dinner, or just a sweet treat on a regular day. Let’s dive into the deliciousness!
Ingredients
- 2 ½ pounds of Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup light brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 package of pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
- Roll out one of the pie crusts and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Pour the apple mixture into the crust and dot with pieces of butter.
- Roll out the second pie crust and cut it into strips to create a lattice top. Lay the strips over the apple filling, weaving them to form a beautiful lattice design.
- Brush the lattice with the beaten egg to give it a golden finish when baked.
- Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Then, reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for another 35-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
- Once done, remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool for at least 2 hours before serving. This will help the filling set up nicely.
Serve your Classic Apple Pie warm or at room temperature, perhaps with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. Enjoy the comforting flavors of this beloved dessert!
